I love to cook. I'm not sure where I learned it, though, because cooking was something my mom did out of necessity. We had to eat, but I would venture a guess that she didn't genuinely enjoy standing over the stove in the kitchen. I adore it.
Cooking is very therapeutic to me. Recipes are not. I loathe them. This is why I do not bake. Except for the occasional Tollhouse cookie or Betty Crocker brownie. (Although I did surprise myself one day while pregnant with the unfaltering urge to make homemade vanilla cake with chocolate frosting. From scratch. Without even having to go to the store for ingredients.) Amazing, I know! But that was a fluke.
I do not follow recipes. I do not measure. I usually do not remember how I made something taste so good or what I actually included in the dish. The same dish made on two different days will inevitably have variations in taste and even elements. But somehow my food always turns out pretty darn good.
This is what works for me, so you will never see my exact recipes or measured ingredient lists on this page. Ever. You may see methods, suggestions, and included elements. Take from it what you will. I take my inspiration from culinary muses like these (not to mention hours upon hours of The Food Network and Bravo's Top Chef.)
